Gang fears rise

A shooting of five people in the Southside is the latest of several high-profile instances of gang violence in Tracy, and it has some residents worried about the safety of their neighborhoods.

In an area of town that saw a home firebombed earlier this month and a shooting that injured five Monday, some people are increasingly worried about what they see as an ever-growing gang presence.

"They are bringing the property values down and putting the lives of our kids in jeopardy," said one resident near the scene of Monday night’s Hoyt Park shooting.

He and a few others in this story wished to remain anonymous because they fear retaliation for speaking out against gangs.
