LANCASTER - A state ballot measure aimed at providing more money for law enforcement and stiffening penalties for a bevy of crimes will go before voters in November.
The measure, dubbed the Safe Neighborhoods Act, needed signatures from nearly 434,000 registered voters to make it onto the ballot, and more than 800,000 signatures were submitted to the secretary of state's office in April. Signatures have been verified and the measure has qualified for the ballot.
"We will be successful," said state Sen. George Runner, R-Lancaster, who co-authored the act. "People feel they deserve and should be in safe neighborhoods. "
The act aims to tackle a variety of issues.
