When the kids were all little my husband worked a ton. He had to so that we could survive. This meant that I was with the little one pretty much all the time. One afternoon my teenage brother was home from school and I needed to run to the store. I pretty much begged him to come over and stay with the kids for a few minutes as I just needed some formula. When he came over most of the kids were sleeping so it was an easy job. When I got to the store they were out of the formula that I needed and it took what seemed like forever to get them to score some from the back stock room. Instead of being gone 15 minutes it was more like 45. I knew it was a big deal because the kids would be up by the time I got home. I hurried through the check out and headed home. What I found when I got there was like something out of a movie. My brother had all the kids on the patio (it was closed it) with the glass sliding door shut. He was on one side in tears and they were all on the other….screaming and crying! He cried out to me “I can still see them!” It was so funny and so sad all at one time! Before he went home he left me with some parting words. He told me that babysitting for me was the best form of abstinence training on the planet!

My favorite gift that I purchased for my children this year was one picked out for my son Benjamin. All year long Benjamin has been asking us if he can have a pig. He wants to name him Mr. Bacon and have him as a pet. We have tried to explain that we really do not have room for Mr Bacon in our home, as the pig he wants can grow to be some 200 pounds! I cannot imagine that size creature running to the door when someone rang the bell! (Although secretly I think it would be awesome!). My daughter and I decided to take a trip to one of the largest malls in the area for some Christmas shopping. One of her favorite stores is the Hallmark store so we popped in for a visit. And, what to my wondering eyes should appear but a pink little pig smiling with cheer!! Across the front of the package it read “Mr Bacon”!!!! We were so excited we could hardly stand it! For fourteen dollars this snorting and walking pig was all ours! On Christmas morning Benjamin awoke to find a mysterious set of C-Batteries in his stocking. One by one he opened his presents waiting with great anticipation for the gift that needed these batteries. I am certain you can imagine his great surprise when he opened Mr. Bacon! A round of laughs was indeed shared by all! Once the batteries were inserted, Mr. Bacon was snorting and walking through all the presents. He may not be a real pig, but for now he is real enough for Benjamin!
